You Can't Fight Love Contest

I've been gone a long time, and I'm very sorry. I owe a lot of people a lot of little icons, and I'm so sorry for that too. For a while I became afraid of going on here because I owe so many people so many things. While I haven't been posting art here I've been working on a children's story, one that I hope to have color illustrated and finished by the end of the summer to use in my college portfolio. My last day of school, my sophomore year, was Thursday, and summer for me has begun! I plan to do a lot of things. Erik and I (and for those of you who asked, or were wondering, my boyfriend Erik is the boy on my webcam) Erik and I plan on volunteering at a guinea pig rescue center near his house (yes, such a thing really does exist!) and I'm going to ask a town supervisor if I can paint a mural on a tagged-up concrete dam behind my house.

But this journal is about a contest I'd like everyone to take part in, called You Can't Fight Love. I've been reading a lot about the protests against Proposition 8, California's law against gay marriage. Ted Olson and David Boies, the two lawyers who fought each other over the Bush vs. Gore election in 2000, have, very inspirationally, teamed up to take the case to the Supreme Court to have the ban lifted not only in California, but in all of the United States. Even though I'm still small, even though I'm not an adult, I want to help in any way. My friend and I are making t-shirts that say "You Can't Fight Love," but I've wanted to do more. If I could, I'd be out giving speeches.

But I had this idea. Since I know so many fantastic artists and wonderful people who I've met on here, I wanted to have a contest. There are 4 places, (or more if more people want to take part). If you'd like to make a piece of art, supporting all kinds of love, please submit it, and if you like, I'll turn it into a poster, or a sticker, and hang them around my town. Not only will a message be spread throughout deviantART, but in places everyone sees them, and you can make posters too! The 4 winning places will be hung up around my town and my friends' towns, and I'll take pictures of all of them. And, for the top four submissions, each artist will receive a bracelet from me, mailed to them. (:

This isn't about winning, it's not just about propaganda in just my town, it's about hopefully getting something started to where we see these posters everywhere, in tons of towns, and so we see this message everywhere. We should not let the government create second-class citizens, denied of rights others have. I don't believe anyone has the right to tell another person they cannot marry the person they love.

Guidelines:

:star: Anyone may enter, no matter where you're from.
:star: Submit as many entries as you like!
:star: Please have the entry/entries focus on love, between not just a man and a woman, but a man and a man, and/or a woman and a woman. All kinds of love.
:star: If you'd like to have your entry eligible to be turned into a poster or a sticker, please say so in your description, or send me a note saying so. I will only use entries as posters/stickers with the artist's permission.
:star: The entries can be all sorts of mediums: traditional, digital, photography, collage, painting, anything.
:star: Please send links to your entries to THIS EMAIL: youcantfightlove@hotmail.com (they can be links to the deviantART submission, or a flickr submission, etc.)
:star: Please aim to have your entry/entries in by July 10th. (If you need more time, and I totally understand, just email me at the address above and let me know.)


I hope this little contest will create a lot of future posters, that a lot of people will see. That's my big hope. Thank you so much if you choose to take part in it!

It's alright if you haven't had time. We know that you're a busy person, so you have quite a bit of things to do. 83 We'll just have to be patient and wait until you're finished.

Sounds like you & Erik will have a blast over the summer; I wish there was a rescue center for guinea pigs in my town. 8/ The only thing I know we have is a humane society that's going to be re-built somewhere bigger this month. Have fun volunteering and good luck with your book~! 8D

I'd love to enter, but i'm afraid I won't be able to give my best, because right now I can only work with mouse and vectors, because my tablet is broken, and i'm not that good with tradicional media ;_;
